Nature in Canada and around the world is in crisis.
Global biodiversity is collapsing, and we are witnessing the greatest mass extinction since the dinosaurs. In just 50 years, wildlife populations have declined by nearly 70%.
Canada has already fallen short on past biodiversity commitments, including the Aichi Targets. Now, we’re going to miss our goal to protect 25% of Canada’s lands and oceans by 2025. We cannot allow that to happen again.
The federal government needs to implement the 2030 Nature Strategy by ensuring adequate funding for nature protection and restoration efforts
It is up to us to hold the government to account and push for its implementation.
This fall, Nature Canada’s Nature on the Hill will bring together caring Canadians like you (representing over 1,200 nature groups in our Nature Network) on Parliament Hill to be a voice for nature.
To support our call to protect nature, you can send a letter telling your MP to:
- Fund the 2030 Nature Strategy and end nature-harming subsidies
- Protect nature by establishing new protected areas and funding Indigenous-led conservation programs
- Invest in nature restoration, including restoring habitats for culturally significant and at-risk species.
Implementing Canada’s 2030 Nature Strategy is our best chance to halt and reverse nature loss. Let’s make it happen!
(We’ll CC the Prime Minister Mark Carney, the Minister of Environment and Climate Change: Julie Dabrusin, the Minister of Fisheries: Joanne Thompson, the Minister of Canadian Identity and Culture: Steven Guilbealt, and the Secretary of State (Nature): Nathalie Provost too)
