Dear Prime Minister and Ministers responsible for safeguarding nature,

Thank you for your promise to keep Canada on course to reverse nature loss.

A recent nationwide poll conducted by Ekos found that nine out of ten Canadians see nature as a key part of our national identity. It is not merely scenery or a backdrop to our lives, but a defining element of our shared experience – more fundamental, even, than hockey, healthcare, or the Canadian flag.

Unfortunately, we have all seen the unprecedented and imminent danger climate change and biodiversity loss pose to our environment, species and communities alike. This is an emergency that requires immediate action. I am writing to you today to voice my support for a more a nature-positive Canada based on the following commitments:

1. Protecting at least 30 percent of Canada’s land and water by the year 2030
2. Supporting Indigenous-led conservation efforts
3. Pursuing nature based solutions to climate change
4. Restoring urban biodiversity and expanding equitable access to nature

Canadians are counting on you to act now to protect nature for everybody… for all time.
