SEND THE LETTER

Save the Fraser Delta’s wildlife!

We must reject the megaport threatening over 100 species at risk.

About this
initiative

Send the letter to Justin Trudeau and his ministers, now. Tell them we must reject the Fraser Delta Megaport.

The Fraser River Estuary is one of the most biodiverse areas in Canada and home to many rare and endangered species. Unfortunately, over 80% of this ecosystem has already been destroyed, degraded, or compromised by human activity. But research shows that if managed properly much of that damage can be reversed!

Construction of the megaport known as Roberts Bank Terminal 2, is expected to damage the estuary resulting in catastrophic impacts on wildlife, particularly:

  • Western Sandpiper: The Fraser Delta mudflats are critical to the survival of migratory birds, especially the Western Sandpiper, which rely on algae to fuel their annual migrations.
  • Salmon: Fraser River Salmon populations have already been slashed by development in the Fraser River watershed and estuary. The megaport would further damage their marine feeding grounds and their ability to return to the river to spawn.
  • Southern Resident Killer Whales: This Orca population lives in waters just offshore Vancouver and is critically endangered. Orcas are threatened by shipping traffic and food scarcity, primarily salmon.

The Impact Assessment completed by the federal government has shown that the megaport would be a disaster for wildlife.

Tell the Prime Minister and his cabinet to reject Roberts Bank Terminal 2!
